Urban Meyer's Heart Condition

Health issues are the reason Urban Meyer is stepping down as Florida's head football coach. Reportedly it is stress related and is said to have something to do with a heart muscle defect that has caused him some health problems for the last several years. Meyers said the job has put a lot of stress on him and on his family. There is a press conference today where reportedly Meyer will publicly say what evreryone already knows, he will resign as the head coach of the Florida Gators right after their Sugar Bowl game against Cincinnati. His daughter was quoted as saying she was glad to have her daddy back, and I think that pretty much says it all.

About Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer, who is only forty-five years old, is one of the hottest coaches in all of football at perhaps the hottest football program in the nation, the University of Florida. Meyer won Natonal Coach of the Year honors in 04 and could have easily won the award in several other years, and probably should have won in 2006 and 2008. He has led the Gators to two National Championships and has only lost ten games since he came to Florida. His teams have dominated the SEC East against very good competition.

The Urban Meyer Press Conference

Urban Meyer will be speaking publicly on December 27th at his press conference to make his intentions clear to Florida Gator fans and the rest of the nation. Most reports are saying that Urban will continue to remain with the Florida Gators in some way in the organization but just not as the head coach. His resignation as head coach has shocked the sports world and has sent everyone into a frenzy. Many head coaching jobs could start changing as a result and others will be affected like dominoes.

Who Will Replace Urban Meyer as Florida's Head Coach?

There are many rumors swirling. People are saying Louisville's new coach Charlie Strong could potentially be pulled in. Other rumors are swirling that Mississippi State's coach could bolt for the Florida job, which is one of the most saught after coaching jobs in all of college football.

Urban Meyer to Notre Dame?

Most people know Urban Meyer is Catholic and has been said to have always wanted the Notre Dame coaching position. So naturally, rumors are swirling that this is a ploy to position Meyer to accept the Notre Dame coaching job after this season ends. That seems to be a stretch but not an impossibility. Some sources say that this rumor is entirely false and Meyer's health concerns are the only reason Meyer is stepping down and resigning.

Update: Now after a spirted practice Urban has changed his plans and has decided to withdraw his resignation and take a leave of absence instead. Good grief.
